Every Student Loves Freedom Contest         

Enter the contest for a chance immortalize your words in stone along the Havasu Memorial Walkway along the Bridgewater Channel in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. A complete list of the approved 76 Moments of Freedom can be found here.  Currently we offer Memory Bricks for sale as well. 

Here’s How to Enter

1. Write about what freedom means to you and why, using the guidelines below.
2. YOUR ENTRY CARVED IN STONE for MILLIONS of tourists to ponder and read for decades to come.
3. Your Name entered for eligibility for a future scholarship.

Here’s what you need to do:

• Think about what freedom means to you as a young citizen in our country.
• Imagine what it might be like for visitor student or an adult who does not have the many freedoms and Constitutional Protections we have in the United States of America walking along the Memorial Walkway. They might read the memorial bricks along the way and read about what freedom means to people from our country. Maybe they could begin to understand freedom in a new way, from a fresh perspective, from YOUR perspective!
• Then imagine that your entry in this contest could be permanently in stone along with many others at this ‘historical’ monument.
• WRITE it down. Your entry might be a poem, a personally important quote from a historical figure you respect, or your own thought expressed in your own words. The important thing is that your entry cannot be any longer than 19 lines of 42 characters each and spaces count as a character. (The reason for this is because your winning entry will be carved into a memorial stone and they can only fit so many words on the stone!) Your entry has no minimum length but must convey why freedom is so important to you.
• Must stay with in the topic and time period.
• Use your own words. Common knowledge does not need to be cited.    (example: George Washington was the general of the Continental Army).
• If a quote is used, cite who the speaker was and be historically accurate.
• Length must be 42 characters in width and no more than 19 lines. There is no minimum.
• Don’t forget to give your first and last name and name and location of your school. 
• Make sure your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, AGE, PARENT or GUARDIAN’S NAME is on your winning entry, unless you are 18 or older.

This contest is open to all legal residents of the United States of America between the ages of 0-21 who has attended school. Students of a home school, private school, public school, charter school, Pre-K through post secondary are all eligible and encouraged to participate even if on summer break.

Judges retain the right to edit winning entries for grammar, advertising, and future uses. All entries shall become the property of Havasu Freedom Foundation, and entries shall always be attributed to the original author.
